How to score yourself

Give yourself one point per correct answer. Under 15 means you know the anime but not the games in depth. Between 15 and 30 is a serious trainer who could carry a Pokémon round at any quiz night. Above 30 and you have probably filled a Pokédex or two, maybe on more than one generation. If you scored 40, it is time to test that under a timer against a real opponent.

Tips for hard Pokemon trivia

Hard Pokemon questions usually fall into three kinds: evolution rules (trade, held items, friendship, fossils), type and battle mechanics, and history (covers, generations, creators). When you are unsure, first work out which generation the question is about, then rule out any option that did not exist yet. A Fairy type answer cannot be right for a Red and Blue question, and a Sinnoh Pokémon cannot be on a Johto cover. In the live quiz the options are shuffled and you only have 10 seconds, so read the whole question before you look at the answers. Save your nerve for question 7, which counts double and can flip a close match. For tough rounds on other series, try our hard anime quiz or the video games quiz.
