European Flags Quiz with Answers: 30 Flags, Easy to Hard
2026-10-27 · 7 min read
This European flags quiz with answers shows you 30 real flags of Europe, one at a time, and asks which country each one belongs to. Europe is one of the hardest continents for flag fans, because so many countries use the same few colours. Red, white and blue appear again and again, several Nordic countries share the same cross layout, and a handful of tricolours differ only in the order of their stripes. The quiz is split into three rounds of 10. The Easy round covers the big, famous flags. The Medium round moves on to flags that most people have seen but cannot always name. The Hard round is full of look-alikes and small states. Under each flag you will find the answer in bold and a short fact to help you remember it next time.

How to tell European flags apart
A few patterns cover most of the mistakes people make in a flag quiz on Europe.
Nordic crosses. Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland and Iceland all use a cross that sits closer to the flagpole. Learn the colours: Denmark is white on red, Sweden yellow on blue, Finland blue on white, Norway blue and white on red, and Iceland red and white on blue.
Horizontal tricolours. Russia, Slovakia and Slovenia all use white, blue and red. Russia has no emblem, Slovakia's shield shows a double cross and Slovenia's shows a mountain. The Netherlands and Luxembourg differ mostly in the shade of blue.
Vertical tricolours. France, Italy, Ireland, Belgium and Romania are the classic five. Ireland's orange stripe sits on the side away from the flagpole, which keeps it apart from Ivory Coast in a world quiz.
Two-colour flags. Poland and Monaco both use red and white, with the colours in opposite positions. Austria adds a third stripe of red.
